Eletech Ode to Laura Review: The Copper Artisan

Compared to Sonnet of Adam (Review link)

Sonnet of Adam (Adam in short) is Eletech’s co-flagship product that sits in the same tier as Ode to Laura. Laura uses a special blend of copper materials whereas Adam uses gold for the materials. Both cables are cables that bring out their unique taste without messing up the IEM’s originally intended signature.

Laura and Adam are also the same in the sense that they care about sounding smooth while retrieving maximum texture details, giving this silky, refined sound to the IEMs. Yet once tuning into the details, they differed quite a lot.

Right off the bat, I can tell Laura has a warmer timbre with thicker bass groves. The bass is lush, bringing out meaty, thick-density dynamics more than the Adam. Laura treats the sound more “butter-smooth” as well. Vocals also have thicker density and body, giving more fullness to the mid-range.

Meanwhile, Adam keeps the vocals slightly leaner yet pays more attention to the texture details – and most importantly, the airiness. The bass quantity is almost the same, yet Adam calm-downed the sub-bass reverbs more to give better technicality and a cleaner aftertaste. The bass feels snappier and more agile while keeping the smooth, musical dynamics found in Laura.

The overall sound is slightly more elevated on Adam – like gently bringing up the focal point of the sound. This really makes the vocals and trebles sound more heavenly. Adam also has the smooth, creamy nuance that Laura had but now with a touch of airy openness to mids and highs, giving a substantial boost in technical richness.

Adam also feels to bring out more vibrancy and liveliness than Laura. Adam is still very natural and balanced, it’s just that Adam has more finesse and artful touches going on for the upper ends. In short, Laura’s definition of richness is derived from creamy tone and fullness. Adam’s definition of richness, on the other hand, is derived from sparkly strands of mid-treble details accompanied by a further controlled bass.

Compared to Rhapsodio Evolution Copper

The Evolution Copper is Rhapsodio’s pure copper cable applied with multiple copper shieldings, sitting similar in concept to Eletech Ode to Laura. Evolution Copper is priced at $2000. Evolution Copper (EC) is superior in bringing out deeper and thicker bass.

Compared to Ode to Laura, the ultra-low extension is also better with livelier dynamics. As for the vocals, the temperature is warmer and darker on EC. Vocals are more neutral in position and have a drier texture than Laura’s. EC desires a strictly neutral timbre and respects your IEM’s original timbre better.

Meanwhile, Laura does a better job in the vocals, especially the vocal’s delicacy. Laura’s timbre and texture are silkier, smoother, and moist than EC, which is a better choice if you’d like to moisturize your IEM’s dry mid-range. The upper ends are more also refined in texture. Laura offers tighter vocals that are pulled closer to the ears, putting more emphasis on the vocal dynamics. The treble performance is in a similar tier but Laura is better in extension and clarity.

Verdicts: Laura’s Soul-Ringing Musicality

Using gold or silver conductors is a common path when attempting to enrich the sound of your IEMs, and copper conductors are often misconceived as an inferior material for cable use. However, copper cables were always capable of being as good as other materials, and if finely tuned with the highest quality conductors, copper cables have the strength to sound better and more accurate than other cables made of different materials.

Ode to Laura is a master artisan of bringing lush analyticity without steering away from accurate sound presentation. Along with introducing a higher-resolution sound, Laura seamlessly overhauls the IEM to have silky texture and creamy nuance which gives them a highly lavish yet organic sound. If you want to serve your flagship IEMs with both musicality and analyticity, the Ode to Laura will be one of the rarest that will move your heart.
