Vortex Cables Seraphina Review: Thump & Shine

Matched with Oriveti OH700VB (Review link)

Seraphina makes a great synergy with OH700VB, Oriveti’s newest hybrid IEM. Pairing OH700VB with Seraphina first improves the overall clarity, presenting a cleaner and darker background. The music just stands out in better resolution. The bass dives deeper with more nuanced rumbles. This helps OH700VB to show a stronger bass presence in music while keeping the bass quantity the same as before. The bass also gets mildly tighter which aids towards better control and agility.

The mid-range also benefits through this pairing, having the vocals sound denser and transparent. There’s a mild uplift in airiness and vastness where the upper headroom feels more open-fielded. Lastly, Seraphina introduces better separation where instruments make clearer distinctions between each other and better distancing. The stock cable is relatively more cramped and smaller in headroom which Seraphina naturally expands it for a wider sound.

Matched with SoftEars Twilight

Noticeably better bass performance. Not only the bass is cleaner in color but also deeper in depth, bringing out significantly bolder and clearer low-end details. The sub-bass reverbs and ultra-low reverbs are both stronger, making the bass response emphasized evenly across the spectrum. The good part is that this doesn’t bother Twilight’s intended sound signature but only maximizes its charms.

The upper ends also gain an appropriate amount of breeziness, allowing Twilight to open up a bit more towards the upper headroom. With a slight touch of crispness and transparency, Seraphina keeps the timbre nearly identical to the stock cable. In the end, Seraphina nicely accompanies Twilight to extend its performance in clarity and bass response, while preserving Twilight’s signature flowingly-smooth timbre.

Compared to Vortex Lavinia (Review link)

Lavinia makes itself obvious to be the active flagship IEM of Vortex’s cable line-up. The resolution, headroom, extension, fullness, dynamics, and liveliness are all superior. Alida and Seraphina do have most of Lavinia’s major elements and charms, yet the quality and the “level” of achieving these elements are unquestionably different. Lavinia is extremely well balanced and enhances all ranges of sound, basically bringing out the hidden potentials that were possible from an IEM – that are now revealed through Lavinia. For more details about Lavinia, we suggest reading our detailed article in Vortex Lavinia Review.

Compared to Vortex Alida (Review link)

Alida has a more balanced, less v-shaped sound signature while bringing out just as clear and deep-nuanced tone. While Seraphina prefers to give an extra boost in sub-bass quantity, Alida keeps the bass better controlled in quantity and focuses on the leveled and texture resolution. Although I’d say Alida is fairly superior in overall performance, though bass portion would be more of a matter of preference. The mid-highs sound more lush and rich. Alida also has a slightly better resolution and reverb details for the mid-highs. But then again, make sure to consider the price and sound signature difference.

Give your IEMs the V-shaped boost without sacrificing the vocals.

Seraphina is one of the most versatile cables that bring out a consistent, stable upgrade experience for your IEMs – the bass gets deeper in color with gently increased sub-bass, vocals get fuller, and creates an airy upper headroom. Seraphine’s sub-bass boost is done without sacrificing much tightness and agility of the bass, so the vocals and highs would keep clear tones.

What makes Seraphine even better as an upgrade cable is that it also makes the bass tone clearer, hence the hidden ultra-low details will be unveiled (not to an extreme extent but still quite noticeably). If you need a custom upgrade cable within the $300 range with an excellent performance-for-price ratio, Seraphine will be a must to consider.
